NETS 1

1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity

Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers:

a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.
b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
d. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.
Reflection:
I have a hard time understanding computers. Growing up I played outside and our family did not have a computer. I did not even know what a computer was until I was in eighth grade and I had to take computer discovery. I have learned so much in this class as far as how to use technology to facilitate experiences that increase student learning. We did a powerpoint demonstrating we knew how to turn on and off various technology that assists people with hearing and sight disabilities. Also teachers can use their knowledge of subject matter by showing students how technology based activities relate to the real world. One thing I did was create a photostory about the beach. I spent my time taking pictures of the waves, shells, animals, and sand to provide my students with a rich experience of the beach. This is wonderful for students who may not have much background knowledge. Since a beach is nowhere close to where I am at then bringing it to the classroom through technology is the next best thing. To make the experience even richer for the students I could bring in shells from that beach and sand. I could also tell the students how the beach smells and allow other students to describe their experiences.
Artifacts/Evidence:
• Concept mapping
• Assistive technology
• Photostory
Future learning goals:
I have learned many basic skills in technology through completing these activities. Although I have learned many things, I feel that it is important to continue learning and bringing new ideas and activities into my future classroom. I have not had the opportunity to use the skills I have learned in a classroom yet, but I plan on taking my experiences and providing each student with a rich experience and accommodate the needs of every student in my classroom.

  1. My family did not have a computer or internet until I was older either, and even once we got one no one knew how to use it well. The assistive technology is a wonderful tool to have for disabled students.
